The Reading with Barbers program is a partnership with Fort Worth ISD and 8 participating barber shops across the city. The reading program is directly aligned with FWISD's 100x25 initiative, which sets a goal of 100 percent of third-graders reading on grade level or above by the year 2025. The district has supplied each barbershop with a well balanced reading collection in order for students to be able to choose from a variety of genre. Our role is to support literacy with young students between the ages of 4 to 14 by encouraging students to read with siblings, parents, other clients, and barbers while waiting on a haircut. Also, each participating barber shop incentivise students by tracking and charting student progress. The Reading with Barbers initiative has been a community impact program that has shown how families and businesses can come together to improve literacy.
